Synopsis "Across the Sand (The Sand Chronicles) "

"Hugh's imaginative worlds and tales within them never fail to entertain!"--Andy Weir, New York Times bestselling author of Project Hail MaryThe first original novel from author Hugh Howey in six years, Across the Sand takes us back to the world of Sand, to a far future many generations after a disaster has destroyed civilization as we know it, where four siblings struggle to build their futures amid the harsh wastes of endless desertThe old world is buried. A new one has been forged atop the shifting dunes, a land of howling wind and infernal sand.In this barren home, siblings Conner, Rob, Palmer and Violet daily carve out a future. They live in the shadow of their father and oldest sister, Vic, two of the greatest sand divers ever to comb the desert's depths. But these branches of their family tree are long gone, disappeared into the wastes beyond, leaving the younger siblings scratching in the dust, hopeful for a better life. On the other side of No Man's Land, Anya was born beside the abundant mines knowing her prospects would be to marry, have a family, and work in ore, in service to the Empire of the East. But when an atomic bomb delivered by a stranger destroys most of her town--murdering all her friends and community--she follows her father to a strange land of dunes to bring vengeance to their enemies. Two families collide across the sand, and nothing for a thousand dunes will ever be the same.

Hugh Howey is a former bookseller who has achieved his dream: writing and being able to live off it, thanks to his bestseller Wool. He currently lives in Jupiter, Florida, with his wife, Amber, and his dog, Bella.
In 2011, the online bookstore Amazon witnessed the birth of a new sales phenomenon on its website, on par with Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James. Wool (originally titled Wool) was self-published by its author, Hugh Howey, in electronic format and within a few months had positioned itself among the top spots on The New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists. Given the expectations created and backed by an unprecedented public and critical success, the publisher Simon & Schuster decided to acquire the paper publication rights and launched the book to the market last March.

Wool was originally published as five short stories; the success achieved with the first of the tales was what motivated Howey to continue developing the world he had created. With the strategy of serial publication, and thanks to word-of-mouth, Howey managed to attract new followers with each new publication.
This was the beginning of Wool, a phenomenon that has sold 500,000 eBooks on Amazon and will be published in eighteen countries. The film rights to the book have been acquired by Century Fox and the big screen adaptation will feature production by Ridley Scott and screenwriter Steven Zaillian (responsible for works such as Schindler's List or Gangs of New York).
