Toshikazu Kawaguchi (Osaka, Japan, 1971) is an author and playwright known for his ability to blend magical realism and human sensitivity. Before turning to novels, he was a producer, director, and screenwriter for the Sonic Snail theater group, with notable works like COUPLE, Sunset Song, and Family Time. His literary debut, Before the Coffee Gets Cold (Plaza & Janés, 2021), based on his award-winning play of the same name at the Suginami Drama Festival, became an international phenomenon, selling over three million copies and achieving a successful film adaptation in Japan.

The series continues with Happiness Fits in a Cup of Coffee (2023) and The First Coffee of the Day (2025), solidifying his evocative style that explores themes such as time, memory, and human relationships.
