Franz Werfel fue un escritor, dramaturgo y poeta austríaco nacido en 1890 en Praga, entonces parte del Imperio austrohúngaro, y fallecido en 1945 en Los Ángeles. Su escritura se caracteriza por una mezcla de sensibilidad lírica, exploración ética y profundo compromiso con problemas humanos y sociales de su tiempo. Werfel se movió entre la poesía, el teatro y la novela, lo que le permitió abordar distintos registros narrativos sin perder un pulso que siempre buscaba resonar más allá de lo meramente estético.

Una de sus obras más conocidas es Los cuarenta días del Musa Dagh, un relato épico que dramatiza la resistencia de la comunidad armenia durante el genocidio de 1915, y que ha sido leído como un testimonio literario de lucha, memoria y dignidad frente a la barbarie.
