Ziraldo Alves Pinto (1932–2024) was a prolific author, cartoonist, and key figure in 20th-century Brazilian culture. Known for his distinctive graphic style and social commitment, Ziraldo founded the magazine O Pasquim (1969), a weekly humor publication that became a symbol of resistance during the military dictatorship in Brazil. His most iconic work, O Menino Maluquinho (1980), has sold over three million copies and was adapted into film, television, and theater, establishing itself as a classic of Brazilian children's literature. Other notable works include Flicts (1969), This World is a Ball (2014), and A Girl Named Julieta (2009).

Ziraldo received numerous accolades, including the Jabuti Award (1980), the International Award of the 32nd Brussels Cartoon Salon (1969), and the Ibero-American Quevedos Award for Graphic Humor (2008). His legacy spans children's literature, graphic humor, and cultural activism, leaving an indelible mark on Brazilian identity.
