Le persone affette da HIV/AIDS, quando utilizzano farmaci antiretrovirali, sono soggette allo sviluppo della sindrome lipodistrofica che, oltre a causare problemi metabolici, provoca anche disturbi dell'immagine corporea, che possono portare a problemi psicologici come la depressione. La disfunzione temporo-mandibolare (TMD) colpisce gran parte della popolazione nel suo complesso ed è associata alla depressione, ma l'associazione tra queste tre malattie (lipodistrofia, depressione e TMD) è sconosciuta. Pertanto, questo manoscritto è uno studio descrittivo, esplorativo, trasversale e con un approccio quantitativo che mirava a identificare i fattori di rischio per la disfunzione temporo-mandibolare, la sindrome lipodistrofica e la presenza di depressione nelle persone che vivono con l'HIV/AIDS, nonché l'esistenza di un'associazione tra queste malattie.
