His most iconic work, O Menino Maluquinho (1980), has sold over three million copies and was adapted into film, television, and theater, establishing itself as a classic of Brazilian children's literature. Other notable works include Flicts (1969), This World is a Ball (2014), and A Girl Named Julieta (2009).
