Simone de Beauvoir (Paris, January 9, 1908 – April 14, 1986) was one of the most influential philosophers, writers, and essayists of the 20th century, a key figure in existentialism and an international reference in feminism. She studied philosophy at the Sorbonne, where she met Jean-Paul Sartre, with whom she maintained a famous intellectual and personal relationship that would mark her life and thought. She published fundamental works such as The Second Sex (1949), considered a pillar of modern feminism, in which she analyzes the social construction of women from an existentialist perspective, and novels like She Came to Stay (1943) and The Mandarins (1954), the latter awarded the prestigious Goncourt Prize.

Throughout her career, De Beauvoir combined philosophical reflection, social analysis, and autobiography in more than twenty books, among which stand out Memoirs of a Dutiful Daughter, The Prime of Life, The Woman Destroyed, and Adieux: A Farewell to Sartre. She was internationally recognized with distinctions such as the Jerusalem Prize (1975) and the Austrian State Prize for European Literature (1978), and left an essential legacy in the fight for gender equality and human rights. Her thought and activism continue to inspire generations of readers, intellectuals, and freedom advocates.
