As a student of naval medicine, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle began to write short stories. After the publication of Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, he saw a small fraction of the recognition and influence that his immortal character would have on the world of literature. Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle nació el 22 de mayo de 1881, en Edimburgo, Escocia; y falleció el 7 de julio de 1930 en Inglaterra. Graduado como médico naval en 1881, mientras estudiaba comenzó a escribir historias breves, la primera de ellas publicada antes de que cumpliera los 20 años. Recién en noviembre de 1886, cuando la editorial británica Ward Lock & Company publicó la primera de las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes, Un estudio en escarlata, su autor conoció un anticipo de la repercusión y el reconocimiento que posteriormente le brindaría su inmortal personaje.
