Eine Zahnextraktion (auch Zahnextraktion, Exodontie, Exodontie oder informell Zahnziehen genannt) ist die Entfernung von Zähnen aus der Alveole (Zahnhöhle) im Alveolarknochen. Zahnextraktionen werden aus einer Vielzahl von Gründen durchgeführt, am häufigsten jedoch, um Zähne zu entfernen, die durch Karies, Parodontalerkrankungen oder Zahntraumata unrestaurierbar geworden sind, insbesondere wenn sie mit Zahnschmerzen verbunden sind. Manchmal verursachen impaktierte Weisheitszähne (Weisheitszähne, die festsitzen und nicht normal in den Mund wachsen können) wiederkehrende Entzündungen des Zahnfleisches (Perikoronitis) und können entfernt werden, wenn andere konservative Behandlungen versagt haben (Reinigung, Antibiotika und operative Entfernung). In der Kieferorthopädie können bei Engständen gesunde Zähne (oft Prämolaren) gezogen werden, um Platz zu schaffen, damit die übrigen Zähne begradigt werden können.
