Synopsis "History and Tales of the Paintsville Stockyard"

The Paintsville Stockyard in Paintsville, Kentucky used to be the weekend outing for local folk. It was where you went to check out livestock prices, to buy and sell a little at the flea market and dog lot or to meet up with your buddies. It was where you took visitors from afar who wanted to see a full display of hillbilliness. Everyone around has a story about something that happened at the Stockyard and it is the joy of this book to read some of them in the second part. The first part of the book deals with the history of the place, how it came to be where it is, who the first owners were and how the business peaked and declined. In itself a fascinating story. John H. Butch Preston is the author of the novel, Where Everything Important Happens on a Hillside; Ten Miles From Clay City and Other Stories, and History and Tales of the Paintsville Stockyard. His newest play, Kentucky's Richest Man, the Life of John CC Mayo was recently performed at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg, Ky. He is currently working on a new novel and building a tornado shelter.
