Kayo Chingonyi FRSL nació en Zambia en 1987 y se mudó al Reino Unido a los seis años. Es miembro del programa Complete Works para la diversidad y calidad en la poesía británica y de la Fundación Civitella Ranieri. En 2012, recibió el Premio Geoffrey Dearmer de la Poetry Society y fue Poeta Asociado del Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo (ICA) en 2015. Su primera colección completa, Kumukanda, ganó el Premio Dylan Thomas y un Premio Somerset Maugham. Kayo fue Becario Burgess en el Centro de Nueva Escritura de la Universidad de Manchester antes de unirse a la Universidad de Durham, donde es Profesor Asociado de Escritura Creativa.
