Die Liberalisierung ab den 1990er Jahren ermöglichte den Rückzug des Staates und förderte die Privatinitiative. Dank des Gesetzes vom 14. August 1992 über Genossenschaften und Gruppen gemeinsamer Initiative haben sich in Kamerun im Allgemeinen und im Bezirk Bokito im Besonderen die GICs entwickelt. Der zentrale Gegenstand der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die Untersuchung der "Union des groupes d'initiative commune des agriculteurs de Bokito (1994-2017)". Diese Bauernorganisation, die zu einer Pionierin in der Region wurde, setzt sich für die lokale Entwicklung im Bezirk Bokito ein. Sie ist heute der weltliche Arm der Bauern, insbesondere der Kakaobauern.
