ENGLISH DESCRIPTION The Fourth Sword is a rigorous journalistic investigation about the Shining Path terrorist group in Peru and its leader Abimael Guzman.  Almost 70,000 deaths were caused by the civil war between the Shining Path terrorist movement and the Peruvian government during the eighties and nineties. Responsible for more than half of the victims, Shining Path was the most deadly and dangerous subversive group ever in the history of Latin America.   Abimael Guzman, the man who led such violence and considers himself to be the "fourth sword" of international communism after Lenin, Stalin, and Mao, was not armed. He had no support from foreign governments, and he did not even set foot on the battlefield. Santiago Roncagliolo (Peru, 1975) is a writer, screenwriter, and journalist born in Lima. His novel Red April earned him the Alfaguara Novel Prize and has been translated into more than twenty languages. Among his most notable works are Modesty, The Fourth Sword, Memoirs of a Lady, and The Maximum Penalty. He has ventured into children's and theatrical literature, and his work is characterized by exploring violence and the recent history of Peru. He was included by Granta magazine among the best Spanish-speaking writers under 35 years old and has received the Steamboat Prize for children's literature.

Un libro que narra la historia desde el comienzo como fue la infancia y la adultez de Abimael hasta su formación en Sendero y su época de terror. Tiene un lenguaje ameno como si fuera un nota periodística. Igual que lo dice el autor este es un libro que no marca ninguna posición tajante en contra o a favor de Sendero, igual que lo dijo Abimael cuando leyó en la cárcel este libro "Me parece un libro inocente", quedara en cada lector la critica de este libro y marcar una posición propia.
