Robert Louis Stevenson (Edinburgh, Scotland, 1850 - Samoa, 1894) is a Scottish writer, one of the great classics of 19th century literature. Master of adventure and fantasy novels, his work achieved popular and enduring success. Among his most famous titles are Treasure Island (1883), The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886), and Black Arrow (1888), all of which have been translated into multiple languages and adapted numerous times for film, theater, and television. Due to his fragile health, Stevenson was a tireless traveler, also becoming a prominent travel essayist. He spent his last years in the Samoa Islands, where he died.
