“Este segundo tomo de discursos de Patricio Aylwin Azócar se inicia con sus primeras declaraciones respecto del golpe de Estado en septiembre de 1973, y culmina con sus reflexiones sobre la democracia, cercano ya a su fallecimiento en abril de 2016. En el intertanto, vemos el desarrollo de su experiencia y oposición al régimen militar; su papel en la formación de la Concertación de Partidos por la Democracia; su presidencia de la República en el período 1990-1994; su posterior rol como ex Presidente para mantener la unidad de la Concertación; su reflexión
sobre los deberes de la democracia; su aporte para entender la reducción de la pobreza como una responsabilidad global. Estos discursos muestran a un hombre activo y motivado, pero consciente de los límites del accionar político. Se revelan aquí tanto sus ideales como su pragmatismo”. He was a professor of civic education and political economy at the National Institute, professor of administrative law at the University of Chile and at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. President of the National Falange and the Christian Democrat Party in different periods. Senator of the Republic between 1965 and 1973 for the 6th provincial group. President of the Senate between 1971 and 1972. He was the spokesperson for the Coalition of Parties for the No in 1988 and President of the Republic (1990-1994). Author of various books, including The Reunion of Democrats (1998)
