Synopsis "Labyrinth"

Book 7 in the Demigod - Having just escaped the clutches of a secret US organisation which imprisoned and tortured him to gain command of his power for their own ends, Jason seeks refuge on a small Caribbean island. Deciding to make the island his home, he plans to develop a remote peninsula honeycombed with a labyrinth of lava tubes and caves, to build a family villa where he can live out his days in peace. With his new wife, Cindy, and their children on the way, it's more important than ever he retain dominance over Gilgamesh to maintain a low profile and remain anonymous. Since his confinement in Colorado Gilgamesh has grown in power and less willing to take a back seat when threats loom. Essential to Jason's survival but an existential threat to normalcy it becomes harder for Jason to hold Gilgamesh back. With fewer threats on the island it is only benign acts of aid for people in desperate need that draw Gilgamesh forth, allowing Jason to form a precarious harmony with his alter ego. Their new island paradise seems the perfect opportunity to avoid controversy and conflict likely to arouse Gilgamesh and cause high profile incidents Jason cannot explain away. But even benign acts by Gilgamesh are great acts, which come with great consequences. It's not long before islander's suspicions are raised and alerted to the miraculous presence amongst them. Momma Meli the island's Manbo, a voodoo priestess of renown, offers a solution to Jason's dilemma: for a price. The vengeance demanded by the Manbo threatens to embroil Jason in inter-island conflict with a powerful voodoo priest who revels in his reputation for violence and cruelty. Wanting to avoid direct conflict where he has no stake and much to lose, Jason walks away intent on implementing his own solution. International crime gangs, local criminals and the powerful voodoo priest become an increasing threat which Gilgamesh refuses to back away from. It had taken hard work and pain for Jason to learn the rules of the games he had been thrust into. The pot was larger than ever, but the other players refused to let him leave a winner. It was time he began making new rules that suited him better, rules the other players were unlikely to like...
