Michael Bond (1935-2017) was a British author best known for his children's series Paddington Bear. Born in London, Bond began his writing career after working at the BBC. His first book about Paddington, titled A Bear Called Paddington (1958), introduced the iconic Peruvian bear who lives with the Brown family in London, and quickly became a classic of children's literature. Throughout his career, Bond wrote over 20 books about this character, which have been translated into several languages.
Among his other notable works are Paddington at the Zoo (1959) and Paddington's Adventures (2008). Bond's books, characterized by their tender style and humorous tone, have been adapted into movies and television series.
