He holds a PhD in Psychology and a degree in Criminology, as well as being one of the pioneers and most recognized authorities in the field of violent criminology. His professional interest has swung between two poles: on one hand, developing prevention programs for antisocial behavior in children and youth; on the other, understanding and treating the most relentless and systematic aggressors, including sexual offenders and psychopathic criminals. A promoter of criminal psychology and correctional pedagogy, he is the author of significant scientific and popular work in the field of criminology and the rehabilitation of offenders. He has been a consultant for the United Nations on crime prevention in Latin America, and a strong advocate for programs addressing young people and adults, about which he has published numerous articles and books, including The Killer's Trail, Face to Face with the Psychopath, Tyrant Children, and Criminal Profiles.
