Wilhelm Gwinner, en tanto que albacea de Arthur Schopenhauer
(1788-1860), se encontró entre sus manuscritos uno autobiográfico que, por
voluntad del autor, destruyó; no obstante, se apoyó en él para redactar la
primera biografía del filósofo, Arthur Schopenhauer presentado desde el tratado
personal (1862). Los “evangelistas” de Schopenhauer, Ernst Otto Lindner o
Julius Frauenstädt, le criticaron duramente por ello, acusándolo de plagio. La
respuesta de Gwinner a este ataque es la obra que aquí presentamos, la cual
viene a complementar dicha biografía.
