Nacido en el austero pueblo naval de Bremerton, Washington, y criado en los suburbios del sur de Seattle, comencé a escribir casi en cuanto aprendí a sostener un lápiz. La máxima del editor de ciencia ficción George Scithers, que decía que todos los aspirantes a escritores tienen un millón de palabras de mala prosa y que tienen que escribirla, resume bastante bien las dos décadas transcurridas entre mi primer intento serio de escribir un libro y mi primer libro publicado, "Senderos de Sabiduría", publicado en 1996.
