Director and creator of the Center for Investigative Journalism, Ciper. She founded and directed the magazine Siete+7 and the Diario Siete. She was deputy director and investigative editor at the newspaper La Nación, deputy director of Cosas magazine, and investigative reporter at the magazines Cauce and Análisis. She worked at the newspaper El Siglo and the magazine Ahora. Correspondent in Chile for the Argentine newspaper Clarín (since 1995) and teacher at the New Ibero-American Journalism Foundation (FNPI). She is the author of the books Bomb in a street of Palermo (1986) with Edwin Harrington; The secrets of the Joint Command (1989) with Héctor Contreras; Chile between Yes and No (1988) with Florencia Varas; and The secrets of Karadima's empire (2011) with Juan Andrés Guzmán and Gustavo Villarrubia.

Together with Patricia Verdugo and Ricardo García, she is co-author of the sound history Between Pain and Hope. She has received the The Louis M. Lyons Award for Conscience and Integrity in Journalism, from Harvard University (1988); the Annual Award of the Human Rights Commission of Spain (1985); the María Moors Cabot Prize, from Columbia University (2001); the Dan David Prize, from Tel Aviv University (2006); the Tribute Award, from the New Ibero-American Journalism Foundation (2006); the Unesco-Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize (2010); the Embotelladora Andina Prize (2011) and the Casa América Catalunya Award for Freedom of Expression (2012)
