Fernando Aramburu
Fernando Aramburu (San Sebastián, 1959) is a narrator, poet, and essayist. He graduated in Hispanic Philology at the University of Zaragoza, working in magazines where he promoted culture. In 1985, he moved to Germany where he was a Spanish teacher for immigrant children in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, but he left teaching in 2009 to dedicate himself body and soul to writing.
He is the author of the short story books Los peces de la amargura (2006, XI Mario Vargas Llosa NH Award, IV Dulce Chacón Award and Royal Spanish Academy Award 2008) and El vigilante del fiordo (2011), the non-fiction works Autorretrato sin mí (2018), Vetas profundas (2019) and Utilidad de las desgracias (2020), as well as the novels Fuegos con limón (1996), Los ojos vacíos (2000, Euskadi Award), El trompetista del Utopía (2003), Bami sin sombra (2005), Viaje con Clara por Alemania (2010), Años lentos (2012, VII Tusquets Editors Novel Award and Madrid Booksellers Award), La gran Marivián (2013), Ávidas pretensiones (Biblioteca Breve Award 2014) and Patria (2016, National Narrative Award, Critics Award, Euskadi Award, Francisco Umbral Award, Dulce Chacón Award, Archbishop Juan de San Clemente Award, Strega European Award, Lampedusa Award, Athens Award...), the last great Spanish literary phenomenon, translated into 35 languages and turned into a prestigious series by Aitor Gabilondo for HBO.
