Jimmy Carter
James Earl Carter Jr., known as Jimmy Carter, was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia. He was the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. Before his presidency, Carter served as the governor of Georgia and as a naval officer. After leaving the White House, he has dedicated his life to promoting human rights and world peace, founding the Carter Center in 1982.
In addition to his political work, Carter is a prolific author. Among his most notable works are: An Hour Before Daylight: Memoirs of a Rural Boyhood, published in 2001, which is a memoir of his childhood in the southern United States; Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis, published in 2005, addresses issues of ethics and morality in American politics; Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, published in 2006, offers a perspective on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; among others.
