Fernando Ampuero
Fernando Ampuero (Lima, 1949) studied at the Club de Teatro and at the Catholic University of Lima. He began his literary career in the seventies with the publication of the short story volume Paren el mundo que acá me bajo (1972). He lived in the Galapagos Islands and in the Bolivian and Brazilian jungle. In 1975, he obtained a literature scholarship in Budapest, where he wrote the novel Miraflores melody (1979), and upon his return to Peru, he turned to journalism, both in press and television. Gato encerrado (1987) collects a selection of his chronicles and reports. Among his works stand out Malos modales (1994), Bicho raro (1996), Cuentos escogidos (1998) and El enano, historia de una enemistad (2001), a novel that still remains on the bestseller lists in his country, where it exceeded forty thousand copies in a few weeks. He is currently the General Editor of the news television network Canal N.
