Synopsis "240,000 Miles Straight Up"

The Angel was First Lieutenant Cannon Gray of the United States Army Air Forces, Engineers. He was five feet two inches tall and he had golden curly hair and a face like a choir boy. Old ladies thought him wonderful and beautiful. His superiors, from the moment he had entered West Point, had found him just about the wickedest, hard drinkingest, go-to-hell splinter of steel they'd ever tried to forge.

Lafayette Ronald Hubbard (Tilden, Nebraska, March 13, 1911-Creston, California, January 24, 1986), also known as L. Ron Hubbard, was an American writer of science fiction and fantasy books, philosopher, and the founder of the Church of Scientology. In 1950, Hubbard wrote Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health and founded a series of organizations to promote dianetics.

In 1952, Hubbard lost the rights to Dianetics in bankruptcy proceedings and subsequently founded Scientology. Later, Hubbard oversaw the growth of Scientology as a global organization.

Hubbard was considered by Smithsonian magazine as one of the hundred most significant Americans of all time. In 1994, he was awarded the Ig Nobel Prize in Literature.
