Luc Ferry (born January 3, 1951 in Colombes, France) is a philosopher, writer, and politician noted for his advocacy of secular humanism. Educated at the Sorbonne and the University of Heidelberg, he earned an aggregation in philosophy and political science, as well as a State doctorate in political science. Throughout his academic career, he taught at institutions such as the Institute of Political Studies in Lyon and the universities of Caen and Paris VII. Moreover, he served as the Minister of National Education, Youth, and Research in France from 2002 to 2004.

Among his most prominent works are "The New Ecological Order" (1992), which received the Médicis Essay Prize and the Jean-Jacques Rousseau Prize, and "The God-Man or the Meaning of Life" (1996), awarded the Human Rights Prize. His book "Learning to Live" (2006) became a bestseller in France, with over 300,000 copies sold. Ferry has tackled topics such as political philosophy, ecology, and the meaning of life in his writings, bringing philosophy to a broad audience outside the academic sphere.
