He is one of the main and most recognized illustrators of Tolkien's work. He has participated in the creation of the popular Tolkien calendars and designed numerous related products. His work has also been used for posters commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of The Hobbit and for those of the centenary of Tolkien's birth, as well as for the dust jackets of the latest editions of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion. Howe has also collaborated in the artistic design of the film adaptation of the trilogy.
