Über die Autorin: 1756 in Leipzig als Tochter eines Mediziner und Afrikareisenden geboren, heiratet Christiana Benedicta Hebenstreit 1802 in zweiter Ehe den Naumburger Kaufmann Johann Georg Naubert. Von 1785 an schreibt sie mehr als 50 historische Romane, deren gemeinsames Merkmal ist, dass historische Nebenpersonen zu Hauptpersonen ihrer Erzählung werden. 1808 erblindet sie nach einem Augenleiden und diktiert fortan ihre Werke ihrer jüngsten Tochter. Am 12. Januar 1819 stirbt Benedikte Naubert im Alter von 62 Jahren in Leipzig.
