En los dos ensayos reunidos en este libro, Ana María León —doctora en Historia, Teoría y Crítica de la Arquitectura por el MIT— se detiene en la construcción y transformaciones de dos edificios para iluminar los conflictos políticos en torno a la modernidad y el colonialismo en Argentina. “Una ruina al revés” aborda la intersección entre el largo periodo de inestabilidad política —inaugurado con el exilio de Perón—, la postura política y el misticismo de Borges, y la construcción de la Biblioteca Nacional en Buenos Aires. En “Huesos de la Nación”, se revisitan y contienen la deshumanización y el genocidio del pueblo tehuelche a través del Museo de La Plata, donde, hasta el día de hoy, permanecen restos indígenas que alguna vez formaron parte de su exhibición permanente sin ser identificados ni restituidos a sus descendientes.

In the two essays gathered in this book, Ana María León—PhD in History, Theory, and Criticism of Architecture from MIT—examines two buildings to illuminate political conflicts around modernity and colonialism in Argentina. “A Ruin in Reverse” explores the intersection of a long period of political instability—beginning with Perón’s exile—Borges’s politics and mysticism, and the construction of the National Library of Argentina. In “Bones of the Nation,” she revisits the dehumanization and genocide of the Tehuelche people as reflected in the Museo de La Plata, where Indigenous remains once part of its permanent exhibition remain unidentified and not returned to their descendants.
