Biodentine, le matériau contemporain de remplacement et de réparation de la dentine à base de silicate tricalcique, a été évalué sous un certain nombre d'aspects depuis son lancement en 2009. Biodentine est une capsule tout en un, biocompatible et bioactive. Son noyau tricalcique permet aux minéraux de la biodentine de pénétrer dans les tubules de la dentine, créant ainsi un joint remarquablement étanche, associé à une grande stabilité dimensionnelle. Elle présente une résistance exceptionnelle aux micro-fuites, ce qui minimise la sensibilité postopératoire et réduit le risque de pénétration bactérienne. De plus, le Ph alcalin élevé de la biodentine lui confère des propriétés bactériostatiques qui protègent la dent des infections récurrentes. Ces propriétés font de la biodentine un matériau très polyvalent pour le remplacement des couronnes et des racines. Les procédures comprennent les restaurations permanentes, les cavités profondes, le coiffage pulpaire, la pulpotomie, les restaurations temporaires en émail, les perforations radiculaires, les perforations du plancher pulpaire, la résoption interne, les apexifications et l'apicochirurgie. Il n'existe aucun autre matériau utilisé pour toutes ces indications.
