Our natural habitats, around the world, have been seriously threatened by human encroachment under the garb of development. Unbridled and irresponsible consumption have pushed much of the natural world into near obliteration. However, there is also a growing consciousness that sustainable living and conservation of our natural habitats can coexist with human development. Al Qudra is one such brilliant example. On the outskirts of the bustling hypermodern city of Dubai lies this magical place of conservation. It is seen to be believed how, in the middle of the desert, local authorities carefully nurture a man-made natural ecosystem which routinely attracts migratory birds and allows numerous others to call it their home. There are over 200 species of birds recorded here and increasing. Goutam has tried to share his experience of this natural wonder which reminds us - there is still hope.About the Author -Goutam Mitra is a passionate wildlife lover. His tryst with nature started more than two decades ago when he was based in Japan where he started honing his skills in nature photography. He has lived in South Korea and the Philippines before being based in Dubai in the UAE. Living in all these beautiful countries as well as traveling to many more, Goutam has savoured their natural beauty through his hobby of photography. Photographing birds is his first love and much of his work can been seen on his Instagram page @goutam.mitra2. Goutam's day job is being a Global Marketing professional with a leading multinational corporation. He has two children working in Canada and the United Kingdom and he lives with his wife and his mother in Dubai.
