"Embargo" nos cuenta la ocupación de un hombre por un automóvil, mientras la gasolina va acabándose y la muerte se cierne sobre ambos. En "Reflujo", un único cementerio va absorbiendo todos los demás, hasta la muerte del monarca. En "Cosas" el autor imagina una ciudad sometida a una dictadura absoluta. Un último ser fantástico, mitad hombre y mitad caballo, se esconde desde hace siglo en las sombras de "Centauro". Y "Desquite" es una parábola en la que un muchacho se lanza a un río sabiendo que en la otra orilla lo espera una chica desnuda.

José Saramago (Azinhaga, 1922-Tías, Lanzarote, 2010) is one of the most well-known and appreciated Portuguese writers worldwide. In Spain, since the first publication of The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis in 1985, his literary work received the best reception from readers and critics.
