The Smma. Trinidad School in Baeza was ratified as a University in 1542, with St. John of Avila as its patron. It enjoyed a splendid bibliographic heritage, almost 2,000 volumes of the Baeça obituaries in 1815, enriched with the collections of the Jesuit Colleges, those of St. Buenaventura and the Carmelite College, among others, seized by the State. In addition to the students themselves, the future priests of the diocese were trained in Arts and Theology until the opening of the Conciliar Seminary in 1668. The Seminary had 5,139 volumes in its library. The General Study Plan, in 1824, extinguished the University. The bibliographic collection was received by the Seminary, housing some 9,000 volumes. In 1921 the Major Seminary was transferred to Jaen, leaving the building in Baeza as the Minor Seminary, until it was closed in 1969. The library was divided in two: the part from Baeza was transferred to the Cathedral. Today there are some 4,000 copies described in the current catalogue.
