Synopsis "Catalysis by Gold"

Gold has traditionally been regarded as inactive as a catalytic metal. However, the advent of nanoparticulate gold on high surface area oxide supports has demonstrated its high catalytic activity in many chemical reactions. Gold is active as a heterogeneous catalyst in both gas and liquid phases, and complexes catalyse reactions homogeneously in solution. Many of the reactions being studied will lead to new application areas for catalysis by gold in pollution control, chemical processing, sensors and fuel cell technology. This book describes the properties of gold, the methods for preparing gold catalysts and ways to characterise and use them effectively in reactions. The reaction mechanisms and reasons for the high activities are discussed and the applications for gold catalysis considered.

Dave Thompson (born January 4, 1960) is an English writer known for his prolific literary output, with over 100 published works primarily covering rock and pop music, as well as cinema, sports, philately, numismatics, and erotica. In the 1980s, he regularly contributed to magazines such as Melody Maker and Record Collector, and has contributed to publications like Mojo, Q, and Rolling Stone

Among his most notable works are: U2: Stories for Boys (1985), the first biography of the band U2; Moonage Daydream (1987), about David Bowie; The Psychedelic Furs: Beautiful Chaos (2004); and London's Burning: True Adventures on the Frontlines of Punk, 1976–1977 (2009). His work Shadow and Light: The Story of Gothic Rock has been translated into Spanish as Sombra y luz: La historia del rock gótico

Although his work has been widely recognized, there is no information available about any literary awards he may have received.
