Synopsis "Cielo Bajo: Suites (Contemporanea) (in Spanish)"

In musical terminology, a “suite” is a composition made up of assorted movements that are nevertheless based on the same key.Federico García Lorca’s suites start with the same idea, this time applied to lyrical poetry: establishing series of formally heterogeneous poems that pivot around a common theme. However, his untimely death cut short this ambitious project in which he collected published or unpublished works, all written between 1920 and 1923, under the sign of a new harmony. The present volume features Hispanist Eutimio Martín’s faithful edition of a poem collection that illuminates the first verses of the most brilliant poet of 20th-century Spanish literature.

Federico García Lorca (Fuentevaqueros, Granada, June 5, 1898 – near Víznar, Granada, August 18, 1936) was a Spanish poet and playwright from the Generation of '27, considered one of the most influential figures in Hispanic literature. Among his most notable works are Poet in New York, Blood Wedding, Yerma, and The House of Bernarda Alba. His legacy, cut short by his assassination at the start of the Civil War, blends modernism, avant-garde, and tradition, and consecrates him as the most read Spanish poet of the 20th century.
