En 1915, Freud decide por primera vez publicar las conferencias que, como todos los años, pronuncia en la Universidad de Viena. Su difusión será considerable. En ellas muestra que los sueños y los "actos fallidos" de la vida cotidiana, que escapaban a la investigación científica, dan en realidad acceso a la parte inconsciente de la psique. Las propias neurosis, hasta entonces poco receptivas a los tratamientos, cobran un sentido a la luz de la teoría sexual, que explica sus diversas formas. La transferencia, esa relación privilegiada que se establece entre el analista y el paciente, es el instrumento esencial de la terapia.

Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis. His work falls within the genre of psychology and philosophy of mind, revolutionizing the understanding of the unconscious. Among his most influential books are The Interpretation of Dreams (1899), Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality (1905), and Civilization and Its Discontents (1930). He also wrote The Psychopathology of Everyday Life (1901) and Beyond the Pleasure Principle (1920), fundamental in the evolution of psychoanalytic thought.
