Los cuentos de Evelio Rosero conforman una radiografía social y psicológica de Colombia, especialmente del entorno urbano. Poéticos, de un romántico lirismo, recogen la preocupación del autor por temas como el paso del tiempo, el amor, la muerte, la más pura fantasía, la lujuria… Pero también pueden adoptar la forma de un sueño, de uno que transmute en pesadilla y que persiga al que duerme hasta hacerlo caer rendido entre convulsiones epilépticas. Rosero aplica su mirada aguda ―y a veces desencantada― cuando retrata los hábitos de una sociedad corrompida y caduca, en ocasiones despiadadamente violenta, o hace volar la imaginación cuando la poesía toma la página y deja al lector deslumbrado.
