Margaret Mitchell (1900-1949) was an American writer and journalist, known for her only novel, Gone with the Wind (1936). This work, set during the Civil War and its aftermath, became a literary phenomenon and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1937. Its success transcended literature with the iconic film adaptation of 1939.
