Der Altorientalist Peter Jensen (1861 - 1936) wies mit seinen Hypothesen "zum Mythen- und Sagenvergleich ... auf Parallelen zwischen dem Gilgamesch-Epos und griechischen (vor allem Homer) sowie israelitischen 'Legenden' einschlie lich der Geschichte um die Person Jesu im Neuen Testament hin. Danach arbeitete er diese Theorie zum Monumentalwerk 'Das Gilgamesch-Epos in der Weltliteratur' 1906 so aus, dass er die alttestamentlichen Gestalten von Abraham bis zu den judäischen Königen sowie auch Jesus und Paulus einer eigenwilligen Deutung als israelitische Gilgamesch-Sagen unterzog."
