Charles Baudelaire (18211867), el gran poeta que inició los caminos que iba a seguir la poesía moderna, vivió en París una vida bohemia, dorada durante un tiempo y finalmente precaria. En ese mundo de escritores, artistas y músicos era corriente, como es bien sabido, el abuso del alcohol y también el uso del hachís, droga exótica por aquel entonces. En este célebre texto que presentamos, Baudelaire analiza los efectos que dichas sustancias producen en el alma humana y, más particularmente, en el alma del poeta, efectos contradictorios que van de la euforia a la depresión, de la lucidez al aturdimiento, y que permiten al poeta emitir su juicio sobre ellas: el vino hace que el que lo bebe sea "bueno y sociable", mientras que el hachís es condenado por "antisocial", juicio que refleja las preocupaciones sociales de las que se hizo eco el poeta durante un breve período de su vida.

(Paris, 1821-1867) He is among the most influential poets of the 19th century, and probably also of the entire history of world literature. Expelled from the Lycée Louis-le-Grand despite obtaining the title of Superior Bachelor, in 1940 he enrolled in the faculty of law. He then began to frequent the Latin Quarter, where he met Gérard de Nerval, Sainte-Beuve, and Balzac, plunging uncontrollably into the world of smoke, opium, and prostitution of the Parisian bohemia. Due to his impious behavior, his family sent him to the South Seas. Upon his return, however, Baudelaire would translate the works of Edgar Allan Poe into French and carry out his most famous works: from the scandalous poetry collection The Flowers of Evil (1857) to the texts of Artificial Paradises (1960) and the posthumous Paris Spleen (1869). Harshly criticized and vilified in life for the scandalous nature of his work and behavior, Baudelaire died syphilitic and impoverished, unaware of the invaluable legacy he had bequeathed to posterity. Champion of symbolism, standard-bearer of romanticism, and precursor of decadentism, his body lies buried in the Montparnasse Cemetery.

Con un estilo romanticista, no es un examen cientifico del hachis y el vino, sino lasss perspectivas filosoficas del autor, aunque es un poco supercial tambien es concreto y veridico, una vision desde la sensacion cuerpo-mente y su posicion ante los estados de animo y la voluntad de quienes los consumen. el libro es muy pequeno, estilo hamburguesas de Mcdonals!
