(Du Moulin-Eckart) Die Literaturgeschichte des historischen Romans in Deutschland: In diesem erstmals 1905 erschienenen Werk durchleuchtet Du Moulin-Eckart Schöpfungen von Autoren wie beispielsweise Gerhart Hauptmann, K. F. Meyer, Wieland, Fontane, Goethe und Schiller sowie historische Persönlichkeiten wie Karl der Gro e, Gustav Adolf oder Luther, aber auch Kaiserin Teophania oder Luise von Preu en. In seiner Untersuchung eines Zeitraums von der Völkerwanderung bis hin zu Napoleons Zeiten wechselt er dabei spielend von der Rolle des despektierlichen Literaturkritikers in die des wertneutralen Historikers und ergründet dabei die Dramen der deutschen Geschichte. Richard Maria Ferdinand Graf Du Moulin-Eckart auf Hohenheim (1864-1938), ein Patenkind Richard Wagners, lehrte als Professor von 1900-1930 Geschichte an der Technischen Hochschule München. Mit Biographien über Otto von Bismarck und vor allem Cosima Wagner, allerdings auch mit seinem Vorsitz im national-konservativen bis rechtsextremen Alldeutschen Verband (ADV) machte er sich einen Namen.
