Das gilt auch für die deutsche Minderheit. Im Dezember 1989 als, das kommunistische Regime gestürzt wurde, lebten in Rumänien noch 200000 Deutsche. Schauplatz der vorliegenden Erzählung ist die kleine Stadt Lugosch im Banater Hügelland im Westen Rumäniens. Die Erzählung handelt von Erlebnissen der Elfjährigen Paula Stein und ihres zehnjährigen Bruders Kai im Jahr 1983.
