Esta novela corta del escritor polaco Joseph Conrad (1857-1924), cuenta la historia del capitán Charles Marlow en su búsqueda de Kurtz, un comerciante de marfil perdido en la profundidades del Congo africano. La travesía por el río Congo lleva a Marlow a presenciar horrores insospechados producto de la brutal colonización de occidente en África. También es testigo de primera mano de pueblos olvidados y rituales grotescos, de lo indomable de la naturaleza y sus misterios, de los límites de la humanidad en la oscuridad primitiva de la selva. Marlow busca incansablemente a un hombre que quizás no quiere ser encontrado y en esa búsqueda el protagonista encuentra mucho más de lo que esperaba.

Joseph Conrad (1857-1924) was a Polish-British writer known for his tales about the sea, colonialism, and the psychological struggles of individuals facing adversity. His work is characterized by the exploration of themes such as morality, despair, and the absurdity of human existence. Born in Ukraine, Conrad spent much of his life as a sailor before turning to writing, which significantly influenced his narrative style.

Among his most notable works are Heart of Darkness (1899), Lord Jim (1900), and Nostromo (1904). Although he did not receive major awards during his lifetime, his influence on 20th-century literature is undeniable, being considered a precursor of modern narrative.
