El 7 de enero de 1920 Virginia Woolf comienza un nuevo cuaderno con el que se inicia el vol. II de su Diario que da cuenta de su talento como reseñista, articulista, escritora y editora. Su amor a la vida, a sus amigos, a la literatura, a Londres, a sus paseos con Leonard, y a las flores quedan registrados para siempre. Hacia finales de 1923 convenció a su marido Leonard para mudarse al centro de Londres y, finalmente, en marzo de 1924 se trasladaron al n.º 52 de Tavistock Square, en Londres: «Es posible que así sea la vida, pero dudo de que alguna vez logre convencer a L. Y aquí estoy, frustrada y deprimida, dispuesta a enfrentarme a una vida apagada & moderada en las afueras, justo cuando creía que podía avanzar a toda vela porque después de los 40 no volveré a atesorar tantas capacidades, y a mí me importa mucho más que a él perder la vida, porque la vida no significa lo mismo para los dos. ¡Ay!, poder deslizarse dentro y fuera de las cosas cómodamente, estar en ellas, no al borde de ellas.» Asistimos desde un lugar privilegiado a la convicción de Virginia Woolf de que las mujeres deben tener «libertad para experimentar; [...] disentir de los hombres sin miedo a expresar abiertamente sus diferencias». Empezaba a convertirse, sin saberlo, en icono y estandarte del feminismo.

Virginia Woolf was born in London on January 25, 1882, and died on March 28, 1941, drowned in the River Ouse. After her father's death, the well-known man of letters Sir Leslie Stephen, Virginia and her sister Vanessa left the elegant Kensington neighborhood and moved to the bohemian Bloomsbury, which named the brilliant literary group formed around the Stephen sisters. Among its members were T. S. Eliot, Bertrand Russell, Vita Sackville-West, and the writer Leonard Woolf, whom Virginia married and with whom she ran the prestigious Hogarth Press. From her early works, Virginia Woolf highlighted her intention to take novels beyond mere narration. In Mrs. Dalloway (1925) and To the Lighthouse (1927), the author expressed the inner feelings of the characters with her own techniques, achieving great psychological effects through images, metaphors, and symbols. Her technique was consolidated with Orlando (1931) and The Waves (1931), which secured her an indisputable place within the finest world literature. Additionally, Woolf wrote essays as famous as A Room of One's Own (1929), which still inspires new generations of women today, literary criticism articles like those compiled in The Common Reader (1925, 1932) and in Genius and Ink (2021), or the biography of the English poet Elizabeth Barrett's dog, Flush (1933).
