Esta recopilación de escritos de Hegel sobre religión, por primera vez traducidos al castellano, selecciona los publicados en los años de su docencia en Heidelberg y en Berlín (1816-1831); se trata de textos circunstanciales, como recensiones, réplicas, un prólogo, un discurso Se incluyen además dos escritos no publicados por él: unas notas destinadas a la docencia sobre «Derecho natural» en Jena (1801-1805) y unas notas de lectura de La fe cristiana de Schleiermacher (1822). En estos textos afloran por primera vez las cuestiones discutidas y las críticas que se han dirigido al pensamiento hegeliano, como son el panteísmo o spinozismo, o el ateísmo, pero también la crítica de Hegel a posiciones características de la filosofía y la teología de su época: fideísmo, deísmo, filosofía del sentimiento La amplia introducción y la notas del profesor Amengual hacen posible no sólo situar y entender los textos presentados, sino también acercarse al conjunto de la vida y el pensamiento de Hegel

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770-1831) was a German philosopher, one of the most influential figures of German idealism. He studied at the Tübinger Stift alongside Friedrich Hölderlin and Friedrich Schelling, developing a philosophical system based on dialectics, where the unfolding of history and reality are explained through contradiction and its resolution. He was a professor at the University of Jena and later at the University of Berlin, where his thought gained great influence.

Among his most notable works are Phenomenology of Spirit (1807), Science of Logic (1812-1816), and Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences (1817). He also published Lectures on the Philosophy of History (1837) and Lectures on the History of Philosophy (1833-1836, compiled posthumously). His philosophy has been fundamental in multiple currents of modern thought, including Marxism and existentialism.
