Leonardo Hermes Dutra ist Veterinärmediziner und schloss 2006 sein Studium an der Bundesuniversität Santa Maria (UFSM), Santa Maria - RS, ab. Seine Forschungs- und Arbeitsschwerpunkte liegen im Bereich der klinischen Veterinärpathologie und der präventiven Veterinärmedizin. Er ist Mitautor des Buches "Prävention... ist immer noch die beste Medizin" mit Schwerpunkt auf Zoonosen und Gesundheitsprogrammen für Krankheiten in Populationen. In den Jahren 2008 und 2009 wurde er in Geografischen Informationssystemen (GIS) und EPI-INFO geschult. Im Jahr 2012 schloss er das EPISUS-Programm (Tephinet Global network of field epidemiology training) ab. Er arbeitete im Malariakontrollprogramm in Brasilien und derzeit im brasilianischen Gesundheitsministerium (MS), wo er sich auf Laborepidemiologie, Tableau und Datenanalyse konzentrierte.
