El periodista estaodunidense Jake Barnes se reencuentra en París con Brett Ashley, una enfernera que conoció durante la Primera Guerra Mundial. La pasión entre ambos se truncó cuando una herida en el frente lo dejó a él impotente, lo que acabó provocando una enfermiza relación entre ambos. Tras una serie de situaciones, deciden viajar hasta España para pescar y luego para asistir en Pamplona a los sanfermines junto a varios amigos. Entre ellos figuran Michael, prometido de Brett, y Cohn, con quien ella ha mantenido un idilio. Para complicar aún más las cosas, se unirá a ellos el joven torero Pedro Romero. Limitado al papel de mero espectador, Barnes será testigo de la atracción que provoca en el grupo la mujer que ama. Carlos Fernández del Castillo ilustra la primera gran novela de Ernest Hemingway, que ha vuelto a ser traducida para esta edición por Susana Carral.

Ernest Hemingway (Oak Park, Illinois, July 21, 1899 – Ketchum, Idaho, July 2, 1961) was an American novelist and journalist, Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. He fought in World War I and was a correspondent in several conflicts. His most famous works include The Old Man and the Sea (Pulitzer Prize), A Farewell to Arms, and For Whom the Bell Tolls, recognized for their direct style and influence on universal literature.
