Benedict XVI, born as Joseph Ratzinger in 1927 in Germany, was a prominent theologian and leader of the Catholic Church. Before his election as Pope in 2005, he had already made a significant mark on contemporary theology. Among his most influential works is Introduction to Christianity (1968), a collection of university lectures on the apostolic profession of faith.
