Fernando Vallespín Oña (Madrid, 1954) is a distinguished political scientist and professor of Political Science at the Autonomous University of Madrid. He has held significant positions such as president of the Center for Sociological Research (2004–2008) and academic director of the Ortega-Marañón Foundation (2012–2015). His academic work has focused on political theory and contemporary thought, with over a hundred articles and chapters published in specialized journals. He has been a visiting professor at universities such as Harvard, Heidelberg, and Frankfurt, and regularly contributes to media outlets like El País newspaper.

Among his most recognized works are History of Political Theory (1990–2003), a six-volume collection he directed and co-wrote; New Theories of the Social Contract (1985); The Future of Politics (2000); The Lie Will Set You Free (2012); and Populisms (2017), co-written with Máriam Martínez-Bascuñán. His approach combines theoretical analysis with critical reflection on democracy and contemporary challenges.
