Dieses Buch enthält eine objektive Analyse der Gefahren und Folgen, die von der illegalen Auswanderung von Afrika nach Europa ausgehen. Die Kanarenroute, auch westliche Migrationsroute genannt, ist der drittgefährlichste Seeweg der Welt mit Algerien oder Marokko als Durchgangsstation nach Spanien. Sie trennt die spanischen Inseln Teneriffa, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Hierro, Lanzarote, La Palma und La Gomera von der west- und nordafrikanischen Küste. Ungeachtet ihrer Gefährlichkeit wird die letztgenannte Route von Migranten, die versuchen, in die Europäische Union zu gelangen, häufiger als Umgehungsroute genutzt. Die Verschärfung der Einreisebestimmungen, die Intensivierung der Grenzkontrollen und die Sparma nahmen auf den zentralen (nach Italien oder Malta) und östlichen (nach Griechenland) Migrationsrouten haben leider dazu geführt, dass die Kanarische Route von vielen Migranten bevorzugt wird. Die Navigation auf dem Atlantik ist jedoch nicht ohne Risiken und Schäden für die Migranten und ihre Herkunfts-, Transit- und Zielländer.
